TECHNICAL SUPPORT GROUP is currently recruiting a PROJECT ENGINEER (MINE) for an Alberta and Saskatchewan based opportunity to work in a plant site environment.
The successful candidate will report to the Mine Engineering Supervisor and will be responsible for leading the development, planning and field execution of a portfolio of a multitude of projects. The overall accountabilities will be to ensure work is carried out safely, within schedule and budget, as well to make certain that all applicable technical requirements are met.
Job Description:
- Providing overall Project Management following the Project Work Management Process from project scope development through to startup, working with either in-house or external contractors as applicable to achieve the desired results
- Managing and controlling projects to ensure that objectives are met in an economical and timely manner, and that applicable standards, procedures and quality control requirements are either developed or met as required
- Ensuring successful completion of projects according to clearly defined and agreed-upon objectives
- Making regular trips underground to evaluate progress on projects, identify and missing components, and be available to answer questions from workers in the field.
- Making independent decisions on work methods and procedures within project scope
- Preparing budgets, schedules and resource allocation plans for multi-discipline resources, incorporating best practices in cost control, risk analysis and schedule stewardship
- Writing reports required to appropriate money to fund projects.
- Applying knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations
- Liaise between operations, maintenance, technical groups and outside contractors
Job Requirements:
- Mechanical Project Engineer or Technologist with a minimum of 5+ years of engineering experience in construction project work and/or maintenance, preferably at a heavy industrial site
- Experience with mine underground conveying systems and both surface and underground mine construction is an asset
- Engineering, maintenance, project, and/or operations experience at an operating facility or a heavy industrial site is considered an asset
- A proven appreciation for and demonstrated capabilities in the application of advanced methods of data collection, data analysis, and engineering/construction progress reporting
- Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with the technical and business management disciplines of engineering, as well as procurement and construction activities
- Must be registered or be eligible for registration with APEGS
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
