TECHNICAL SUPPORT GROUP is currently recruiting for a STRUCTURAL DESIGNER for an Alberta based opportunity to work in an Engineering Consulting environment.
Job Description:
- Preparing 3D CAD design models under the supervision of experienced designers
- Developing and preparing 2D Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings from design concepts by senior designer/engineer within the discipline or from design documents of the front-end disciplines
- Responsible for the accuracy of bulk material quantity take-offs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline
- Ensuring compliance with approved design standards in own work and by those assigned, to provide quality design
- Developing work plans, budgets, and schedules for basic designer tasks based on input and direction from supervisor in designated discipline when assigned
- Answering questions from client or construction group on design for assigned responsibility
- Reviewing and checking calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned
- Preparing bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline
- Compiling, maintaining and accessing job drawing files, records, and drawing controls, as instructed
- Preparing design calculations used in the discipline
- Working with designers in other disciplines in the overall assignment to coordinate designs
Job Requirements:
- Technical College diploma in Civil Engineering
- Minimum design experience of 1 year for a junior designer and 4 years for an intermediate designer
- Experience with AutoCAD or another related software package is an asset
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards
