TECHNICAL SUPPORT GROUP is currently recruiting for an INTERMEDIATE BUYER for an Edmonton based opportunity to work in an operating plant environment.

Job Description:

The role will be primarily involved with supporting procurement requirements with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and other auxiliary services business areas.  This role will support all Capital and Non-Capital projects concerning the operational procurement of Consumables, Assets & Services, partnering closely with various internal stakeholders.  The Buyer should be operationally focused that will provide direct Procurement support across the organization.  This role will report to the direct Procurement Supervisor, Projects and Services.  The role is Strategic and transactional/tactical and the individual must be capable of being very hands on and detail oriented.  This role requires the ability to assess and prioritize work requests and execute against daily operational requirements.  Attention to detail and consistent follow through are critical to the success of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for handling all procurement activities related to Site Projects and services, including Capital and Expense projects
  • Participates in cross-functional project teams with the Engineering group and other internal stakeholders including Maintenance, Operations, and other Auxiliary Services
  • Provide consultations and recommendations to client departments regarding purchasing policies, practices, procedures, and objectives
  • Recommends and selects the appropriate procurement method to satisfy the Project requirements varying in size, value and complexity
  • Provide input into the development of procurement documents, including Scopes of work (SOW), RFx documents, corresponding scoring and evaluation materials, terms and conditions documents, and maintenance of procurement policies and related business processes
  • Manages the open and competitive procurement process from tendering through evaluation of vendor proposals, vendor debriefings, and ensures the recommended documents are consistent with the selected procurement method
  • Coordinate, lead and facilitate effective meetings, including meetings with internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate procurement policies, procedures and practices to business area clients
  • Provide training, guidance and assistance to internal and external stakeholders to foster effective contract management
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships that satisfy vendors’ valid expectations of the procurement process
  • Provide coaching and/or advice to stakeholders involved with procurement and contracting activities
  • Serves as a liaison between internal clients and outside suppliers
  • Source and expedite materials to meet code and design specifications
  • Source out new product pricing from trades and vendors
  • Negotiating orders and/or contracts to achieve best value
  • Manage warranty claims with vendors
  • Manage/administer committed contracts with subcontractors including evaluation of and monitoring subcontractor performance and maintaining subcontractor relationships
  • Research and recommend the approval of qualified suppliers / subcontractors by evaluating the financial status, capacities, quality, general technical capabilities and improvements, management, performance, delivery trends and related strategic partnering opportunities
  • Manage high risk, high dollar value commodities for both materials and services
  • Reporting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within the department on a regular basis
  • Support supplier negotiation as part of the sourcing strategy to ensure cost, quality, and delivery expectations are considered
  • Analyzes spend by Vendor, category, item, historical price, current price
  • Works toward reducing procurement costs, improving efficiency and monitoring compliance
  • Manages being on-call, as scheduled

Skill Set:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Access
  • Working knowledge of the competitive bid process and all associated bid types (RFI’s, RFP’s, RFQ’s, etc.)
  • Previous experience in ERP software
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment while meeting deadlines

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma plus (5) years’ experience in a related environment and/or University degree plus three (3) years’ experience
  • Equivalencies will be considered
  • Enrollment in and or completion of PMAC/Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program considered an asset
