Industrial Trades Lead

TSG STAFFING SERVICES is currently recruiting for an Industrial Trades Lead (Millwright/Welding Background) for an Edmonton area-based opportunity. This is a permanent, full-time position.  

Job Description: 

  • Maintain a strong “boots-on-the-ground” presence, with the majority of time spent in the field leading by example, troubleshooting equipment issues, and directly supporting trades personnel.
  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of millwrights, welders, and other maintenance personnel. 
  • Leading and executing scheduled shutdowns/turnarounds while promoting a proactive culture within the team. 
  • Managing employee attendance, performance evaluations, workforce planning, and skills development.
  • Oversee both day-to-day and long-range maintenance activities, ensuring equipment reliability, timely repairs, and minimal downtime within assigned operations.
  • Coach, mentor, and support trades personnel while reinforcing a strong safety culture and accountability performance with operational excellence.
  • Identifying root causes of equipment failures and implementing corrective actions to support continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Establish and refine area maintenance systems and procedures, including preventative and condition-based maintenance programs, to support long-term equipment reliability and safe operation.
  • Identifying operational and maintenance gaps, developing improvement plans, and leading capital or reliability projects to completion. 

 Job Requirements: 

  • Journeyperson Millwright certification OR Journeyperson Welding certification.
  • Minimum 10-20 years of industrial maintenance experience, with a strong background in millwrighting or welding within oil & gas or heavy industrial environments. 
  • Minimum 5-10 years of proven supervisory or leadership experience overseeing maintenance teams in oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial operations (required). 
  • Proven experience coordinating and executing plant shutdowns or turnaround events.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMMS systems and maintenance planning practices. 
  • Extensive experience working in oil & gas, energy, or heavy industrial environments (required). 
  • Ability to organize, set priorities, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced operational setting. 
  • Strong leadership presence with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 
  • Sound technical judgment, problem-solving ability, and a results-driven mindset.
